"A LOOK AT THE NEW TESTAMENT" The New Testament records the birth, death, resurrection, and ascension of Christ, the Son of God, to heaven. You can read about it in Matthew, Mark, Luke and John, the first four books of the New Testament and what we refer to as the four Gospels. At the close of the four gospels, Jesus reappears to his apostles after he arose from the dead and instructs them to go to the city of Jerusalem and "wait for the power from on high" to begin preaching the gospel, or "good news," of Christ.
In the book of Acts, often called the "Book of Conversions," we find the apostles doing just this in chapter 2. The beginning of Christ's church is recorded in the book of Acts with the Apostle Peter preaching the first gospel sermon. The book of Acts tells us what people did to become Christians and be saved and have the Lord "add them" to his church (Acts 2:47).
The remaining books of the New Testament were written mostly to the churches about the mission of the church, how the church was to be "overseen" by godly men called Elders, the qualifications of these elders, and the Deacons (servants of the church) who assist them. Woman's role in the work of the church and in the home, the discipline of church members, and the Bible's commands on "godly living" are all recorded in the New Testament. How well we 1-i-s-t-e-n and a-p-p-1-y what we learn of its teachings will determine our faithfulness to God and our eternal home.
him" (Matthew 17:5)
While Jesus walked on this earth he was the "Living Word" meaning Christ lived the word of God perfectly. Now Christ is in heaven at the right hand of the Father, and we have his "living example" and the written word to guide us as well as the Holy Spirit, who "indwells" the Christian by faith.
We are about to begin a study of the most "Wondrous Work" of God, the salvation of mankind through Jesus Christ our Lord and Saviour.
